Wallace Falls Hike

Wallace Falls Hike

Wallace Falls is one of my very favorite hikes here in Washington state. It’s not too far outside of Seattle, located in Gold Bar Washington and is dog friendly which is a nice bonus. The great thing about this hike besides obviously how almost obnoxiously gorgeous it is, is that it has three levels. The hike is split into lower, medium and upper falls. This is nice because you can do the shorter lower falls and your efforts are still rewarded with a beautiful view of the falls. We took the lower falls hike which was only about 2 miles. I still have a good amount of knee pain from a car accident a couple of years back so this is a great hike for my recovering body to get out and stay active. Though its hilly with a good walking stick and a good hiking buddy it goes by fast and is a great workout without being too hard. Great for those who need an easier hike or have younger children. We went this year as our very first hike of spring. On what was the first truly sunny day here in Seattle. Everyone I mean everyone was outside. I could have thrown a rock in any direction and hit a pale Seattleite trying to get a share of vitamin D. Needless to say it was very crowded and we had to park well away from the trail head on the street, it was  in my opinion very worth it. If you want to park closer or are going for one of the longer hikes I suggest getting there early. The one upside to parking on the street was that it was free. You need a discover pass (30$ a year) or you need to pay the daily fee of 10$ to park in the lot.

I love looking at all the vegetation and moss growing throughout the trails. I particularly like seeing old stumps with new trees growing out of them, I don’t know if this is just a bit of the Seattle granola in me but it makes me happy, I feel all warm and fuzzy. The same feeling comes when I see the lush ferns, lichen and if I’m lucky mushrooms. That is always so fun and exciting if you’re like me and love fungus. I am definitely not an expert and don’t know everything there is to know about any of these plants we spotted along the way, but I do really enjoy stopping and taking them in. Of course with the mushrooms I do avoid touching them. I am a huge fan but do not know enough to be sure what I’m looking at isn’t harmful or poisonous. The one variety we did encounter looked very whimsical and harmless, growing out from way underneath a stump. When we returned to the trail head though we discovered it was poisonous. I’ll provide a picture. I can’t recall what the name was so if any of you know I’d love to hear from you.

Looking forward to buy Wisconsin ginseng? If so, go cialis no prescription unica-web.com online and find a profile of a woman who is very attractive and I decide I want to contact her. With things like moss or lichen you can usually find me looking closely and running my fingers over them. I’m just so drawn to the colors and textures. Lichen is something most people just pass by but I find it fascinating. I recently learned it is actually algae and fungus working together to form the lichen. The algae provide photosynthesis and links together with the fungus, growing very slowly on the tree sometimes its years before its fully fluffy. Though that is the extent of my knowledge I love looking at all the shapes and colors that lichen comes in and if you are on this hike you will surely encounter lots of it.

All the mushrooms, trees and vegetation really come together to make this hike stunning. The air smells amazing as you are walking the trails along the river. As you get close to the falls you can feel the cool mist in the air and then relax with your hiking buddy and enjoy a granola bar or if you’re more like us a “summit beer” which really hits the spot as you take in the gorgeous waterfall.
